Tagging

We tag individuals with a unique number that is put into the ECOCEAN Whale Shark Photo-identification Library.

We currently don't have the funds to use satellite tagging (each satellite tag costs thousands of dollars).

The Whale Shark has thick skin (10cm) and doesn't seem to be distressed by the process, quite often it doesn't even flinch!

Tags have dramatically increased our knowledge of the shark's behaviour and migratory patterns.
