Sightings

We are working on a Sightings Database of our own to learn more about the frequency and consistency of Whale Sharks around these waters.

At the moment, there doesn't seem to be a particular season for whale sharks, but when the weather is bad, we can't get the boats out...so the sightings, of course, go down.

We believe them to be here year round; they are deep dwellers and only come to the surface to feed, and that's about the only time we can collect data about them.

Fortunately for Utila, the oceanic topography here is such that the water is very deep, reasonably close to shore, so we don't have to go out far to see them.
